A lot of gnashing of teeth and wailing over the alleged moratorium on settlement construction is all a facade. Not only is Israel building loads of flats davka in Arab neighbourhoods in expanded East Jerusalem, Defence Minister Ehud Barak -- more Yisrael Beiteinu than Labour -- has ordered the halt construction order issued to West Bank settlement as past of the decision to freeze settlements, be revised to include a series of mitigations which would allow local council to give permits for existing buildings' renovations or public infrastructure work.
Great. No wonder the Palestinians are staying away from talks. All they need to is hold tight, because Israel is eating itself to death.
