Machiavellian BBC

So the BBC has decided that in order to "maintain its impartiality" it will not broadcast an appeal on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee for Gaza. Very nice. Coming so soon after Jeremy al-Bowen's "impartiality", one can only tug one's forelock in thanks.
However, let's think about this a bit.
Does it not suit the BBC, given its record of "impartiality" on the Middle East, to claim that it is impartial. Then, whenever we complain again about its "impartiality", it will be able to point at this decision.
Also, it gives the anti-Israel brigade (Georgeous George, Wedgy-Benn, JFJFJFJFJFP, IJV, Jews Sans Frontiers etc ad nauseum) another reason to berate the BBC for being allegedly "pro-Israel". That suits the suits of the Beeb, too, because again if we complain about their coverage, they will point at the angry mob and say... Well, you know what they'll say.
