Maariv has a story about a man who was ordered by the Rabbinical court to divorce his wife and pay her 20,000 shekels in compensation. That's about £3,000 in real money.

So what did he do? He collected 9,000 shekels' worth in 10 agorot (about 1.5 pence) pieces while the remainder he gave in 20 shekel (£3) notes.

Nice guy, no wonder she wanted a divorce.
