As we mark Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honour the six million Jews murdered in one of the darkest chapters in human history and reaffirm our duty to remember those who survived and those who did not.

As the number of living witnesses dwindles, the responsibility to preserve their testimony and confront the truth of what happened falls ever more heavily on us.

Remembrance must also be matched with resolve. Antisemitism is once again being expressed openly, often repackaged as something else but driven by the same ancient hatred.

Last year’s attack on a synagogue in Manchester was a stark reminder that this hatred is not confined to the past.
