"Some people would have you believe that a silly sound bite makes good policy." This was the term used by Abba Eban and accepted by the framers of UNSC resolution 242
"these extreme right wing Jews are no different from the Palestinians."Abba Eban was no extreme right wing Jew and the framers of resolution 242 recognised that the 1967 Borders were indefensible.
"shows little or no faith in Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. But then again, the far right have proved beyond doubt that they have little or no faith in Israel and only masquerade as Zionists and Israel's champions." It is all right for armchair pundits living 3000 miles from Israel’s borders to pontificate as much as they like. We rather than they will be the targets of Iranian rockets, as such we prefer to listen to what our security experts tell us rather than amateur pundits who mistakenly believe they have the answer to all the world’s problems
"Second, was it not from those very same "Auschwitz Borders" that Israel gained its greatest - albeit Pyrrhic - victory?"In 1973 which seem to have escaped this pundit’s memory the Egyptians and Syrians were well advanced into Israeli held territory before Israel had a chance to respond. Imagine what would have happened if Israel was not at that time occupying Sinai and the Golan Heights – I would not now be blogging from Israel for a start.
"Israel has three choices: "mis"-manage the conflict and carry on the occupation with a majority of non-Jews being ruled by Jews; give the non-Jews full and equal Israeli citizens' rights, which is suicide for Israel as a Jewish and democratic state; or relinquish the "Greater Land of Israel" nightmare and stay a Jewish democratic state."
Israel has a fourth choice a two-state solution based on a willingness by Israel to surrender territories as required by resolution 242 excluding the main settlement blocs and the Jordan Valley for a specified period to prove the Arab's resolve to abide by the terms of the settlement with any swaps but subject to (1) the Palestinians and all Arab States recognizing Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, (2) the Arabs as an entity renouncing the use of violence and terrorism against Israel, (3) The Palestinians giving up any right of return and (4) any Jews living in settlements which are not within the “swaps” being entitled to remain as full and equal citizens of the Palestinian State in peace and security in the same way as the Arabs living in Israel are full and equal citizens of Israel.
