Unveiled threats:
Now the myths that have given Lebanon four years of peace are coming apart. One Hezbollah member of parliament was quoted in a friendly publication this week as all but admitting involvement: "Even if (Hezbollah) did murder Hariri, that's no reason to destroy Lebanon."
Polician double-speak:
Pathetically, the murdered politician's son Saad Hariri, Lebanon's prime minister today, has been reduced to trying to suppress evidence of his father's assassination, asserting that Lebanon's leaders -including Hezbollah legislators -"will not allow the eruption of a conflagration."
Clown Erdogan comes to advise the UN:
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visiting the country this week, explained one way that might happen: Release of the UN findings should be delayed for one year, he says. What a farce.
And the final proof that a war is inevitable there:
In this intractable situation we expect that the most likely next step will be some "solution" like that one, a further weakening of the Lebanese state, new impunity for Hezbollah, and growing Iranian influence. Any alternative would surely be bloody, disruptive, and dangerous for the whole region. But the growing strength of Hezbollah is dangerous, too.
