Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue joined over 15,000 volunteers from the UK and internationally in the globally recognised Mitzvah Day, a day dedicated to doing good deeds.
In the shul and community’s largest ever Mitzvah Day turnout to date, over 200 volunteers joined the projects and gave their time to support a host of good causes.
For the first time ever, Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue organised a cross-generational and crosscommunal Mitzvah Day.
As the third largest Orthodox community in the UK, with over 2,200 members, the Mitzvah Day activities, selectively chosen to appeal to all ages, attracted a vast number of the local residents from babies and toddlers to teens and parents and even grandparents.
Furthermore, in a show of community strength, Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue joined forces with other
local organisations, teaming up with Ohr Yisrael Synagogue, Radlett United Synagogue, Yavneh College, HJPS, BES
Tribe, Gilah Nursery and Little Bicks Nursery.
Tony Arnold, Chairperson, Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue said: “With 2,200 members and 1,300
households, Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue is arguably one of the fastest growing and most active
Jewish communities in the UK.
"We are delighted to be working with our community partners and remarkably proud that so many of our members put aside their time to participate in such a worthwhile day.”
