Wonder Woman, the movie starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot, has broken records at the box office.
The superhero movie had a strong opening weekend, earning over $100 million in the US and $223 million globally - around £250 million in total. This means that its female director, Patty Jenkins, now holds the record for biggest ever opening weekend for a film directed by a woman.
The film has received a raft of positive reviews from critics – the Guardian called it ‘a gloriously badass breath of fresh air’, the New York Times described it as “a blockbuster that lets itself have fun”, while the Washington Post review describes Ms Gadot’s performance as “soulful and utterly credible”.
