He has described terrorist groups Hamas and Hizbollah as "our friends" and, in 2012, supported Sheikh Raed Salah, the Islamic cleric who invoked the antisemitic blood libel. So it would be safe to say there is no love lost between Jeremy Corbyn and the JC.

But one can only assume that when the Labour leadership candidate's team approached us for an interview ahead of Monday's Labour Friends of Israel/JC hustings, they were hoping we would help him come across as a cuddly, misunderstood friend of terrorists.

Pity, then, that when we agreed and asked long-time contributor and Times columnist Oliver Kamm, a Labour supporter of Israel, to conduct the interview, Corbyn's people suddenly went silent.
