The row reignited yesterday as Mr Wolff, who is Jewish, appeared on BBC One’s The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, insisting that he overheard a conversation between Mr Blair and Jared Kushner, Mr Trump’s son-in-law, in which Mr Blair appeared to lobby for a position.
He said: “I sat in the White House on the couch listening. I wasn’t supposed to overhear this, but they were standing right there, with Tony Blair and Jared Kushner standing, not 15 feet in front of me, with Tony Blair – let me choose my words carefully – sucking up to Jared Kushner.”
Mr Marr quoted Mr Blair’s earlier denial, to which Mr Wolff commented that the former British Prime Minister was a “complete liar”.
Mr Blair later responded with a statement issued through his think-tank, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, saying that “this story is a complete fabrication”.
It read: “Michael Wolff has never been present at any conversation between Jared Kushner and Mr Blair. He [Mr Blair] neither sought such a role from Jared Kushner nor was offered one. And we note that many people have had the same experience with Michael Wolff.”
