A shopkeeper who was among the oldest in the world has died at the age of 103.

Jack Yaffe, who retired from his Prestwich haberdashery and hardware store earlier this year after 78 years at the till, was a well-known name in Manchester life.

He opened the shop with his wife Leah in 1934 and the couple were among the first members of the Holy Law Synagogue opposite the store.

For nearly eight decades customers flocked to Yaffe's – "the save money household store" - to buy everything from feather pillows to doormats and needles.
