The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has claimed that “privileged” American Zionists “talk like black people during slavery”.

Casablancas made the comments on the YouTube channel Subway Takes, which has nearly a million subscribers, during an interview with host Kareem Rahma.

Asked for his most controversial opinion, he joked it had “been nice having a career” before saying: “American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people but talk like they are black people during slavery.

Rahma immediately responded that he “100 per cent agrees”, adding: “I’ve never seen something so shocking where they’re like ‘I’m so oppressed. I’m an oppressed person’ - I’m like, ‘you are going to a wedding in Tel Aviv right now, when there are 80,000 dead people... including women and children [close by]’.”
