The children of a Republican candidate for a state assembly seat in Missouri have urged people not to vote for him due to his racist and antisemitic views.

Steve West, who won a Republican primary for the seat in August by 25 points, has used his radio show to promote conspiracies about “Jewish cabals…harvesting baby parts”, as well as saying ““Looking back in history, unfortunately, Hitler was right about what was taking place in Germany. And who was behind it.”

Speaking to the Kansas City Star, Mr West’s daughter Emily said: “He’s made multiple comments that are racist and homophobic and how he doesn’t like the Jews.

“I think it’s just insane that people are putting out his signs. You see his signs everywhere. I don’t understand how people can put out his signs knowing the comments that he’s made.”

Her brother, Andy West agreed, saying “His ideology is pure hatred. It’s totally insane.

“If he gets elected, it would legitimize him. Then he would become a state official, and he’s saying that Jews shouldn’t even have civil rights.”

Federal, State and local elections are taking place throughout the United States next week.

While Andy West told the Missouri paper that his father was not the sort of person to commit violence, he said that “certainly the terrorist that engaged in that synagogue shooting [in Pittsburgh] and my father have the same objective.

“That objective is the removal of Jews from America. And certainly, if somebody who is already unstable gets the kind of message that he’s preaching, it’s all bad.”
