A former Big Brother contestant running to be mayor of Los Angeles has claimed he has been threatened by “Nazi, crazy psychopaths” for “protecting” his Jewish friends.
Spencer Pratt, who is running as a Republican, revealed his “insane” encounters with antisemitic hatred during a recent interview with CNBC.
"I made it very clear that I’m going to protect my Jewish friends and families that feel unsafe from these attacks,” he told anchor Sarah Eisen.
"I didn’t even realise how insane it was until I said that publicly, and the level of Nazi, crazy psychopaths that are threatening me, saying I’m owned by [Jews]
"No, I want Jewish mums to feel safe when their kids go to temple or they go to class at UCLA, the same as I want a Muslim student to feel safe going to worship. Everyone needs to feel safe in Los Angeles.”
Pratt’s outspoken pro-Israel views and public highlighting of the scale of antisemitism has made him a popular candidate among LA’s sizeable Jewish community, whose 560,000 members make it one of the largest in any US city.
And, despite being pro-Trump, his candidacy has also attracted support from some high-profile Democrats with links to the community, including Ashley Underwood, wife of Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David.
However, Pratt has distanced himself during the campaign from previous comments he made on social media in 2009 suggesting that 9/11 was an “inside job”.
He also disavowed his interview on the topic with radio host Alex Jones, who has previously spread an array of conspiracy theories, including discussing the influence of what he termed the “Jewish mafia” on American public life.
Pratt subsequently told CNN that he was “young and naive” when he made the comments and, in reference to the loss of his home in the 2025 Pallisades wildfire, added: “The person I am now is very different than the person before January.”
