Ukip's electoral prospects may be uncertain but its treasurer, Andrew Reid, is confident of at least one winner – his racehorse, Exit Europe.
Mr Reid bred the three-year-old in Mill Hill from the sister of a former Derby winner. "He is going to do the business this year," he said. "He will be a winner."
I rather fancy that Exit Europe will be more likely to triumph on the racecourse than Ukip candidate Keith Frazer is to win the bet he made this week with Nick Clegg.
When Mr Frazer called into the LibDem leader's radio show, Mr Clegg bet him that the LibDems would win many more seats than Ukip in the general election in May.
Mr Frazer gallantly accepted the wager - to buy six pints. Six pints? A couple of cappuccinos and a plate of palmiers are surely more suitable for a nice Jewish boy. But then, he is standing for Ukip.
