Labour has expelled a councillor in Northumberland after he posted a series of rants on Facebook, including "“trust the F**king Jews there [sic] never skint”.

Another post by David Walls, who sits on Blyth Town Council, called called asylum seekers “boat people”.

Cllr Walls was suspended in April 2018 but was only expelled on Thursday.

In an email to local party members, Cllr John Potts, Secretary of Blyth Valley Constituency Labour Party, said the charges against Cllr Walls “have been found proved".

In various posts, Cllr Walls often went on extended, expletive-filled rants. He wrote in one: "Greece, the ASYLUM SEEKERS AND BOAT PEOPLE, WHY THE F**K ARE THE ITV SHOWING US AN EU PROBLEM, WE HAVE VOTED TO LEAVE, NOT OUT F**KIN [sic] PROBLEM ITS EU, NOT UK PROBLEM F**K OFF ITV NEWS YOU MUPPETS.”

He had also shared posts that seemed to compare Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott with a picture of a horse’s rear.

Responding to claims that he was a racist and an antisemite, Mr Walls said that it was “bullsh*t” and it was “PC [Political Correctness] brigade nonsense gone mad”.

Speaking to the JC, Cllr Walls denied that he was an antisemite, saying: “There’s a big Jewish community up here over in Gateshead, and basically they’re all most of Gateshead.

"But it’s not an area I grew up in, it’s not an area I go up to very often, but I certainly don’t have any arguments with any Jewish people.”

Asked if he was claiming he was not antisemitic because did not seek arguments with Jewish people despite living near them, Cllr Walls said: “Well, basically if I were antisemitic I would be going around shouting at them and bawling at them and saying this, that and the other. I don’t have any issues.”

When asked about the post in which he claimed Jews were “never skint”, he tried to deny it had antisemitic overtones.

Cllr Walls was first elected in May 2017 to Blyth Town Council. Many of the posts date from after his election.

Cllr Walls is barred from attending Labour meetings but, when he was suspended, Cllr Potts said the party had “no powers to remove him” from council meetings.

Speaking on Friday, Cllr Walls declined to comment on the expulsion, claiming the party had not told him of it.

Labour said he was informed on Thursday.

Last year, Blyth Valley MP Ronald Campbell said that “the Jewish issue” was being used as “a big stick to beat Corbyn” with, referring to the antisemitism scandal.
