A co-founder of the fringe, pro-Corbyn group Jewish Voice for Labour was cut off by an LBC presenter during a phone-in interview for dismissing a Jewish man's fears of antisemitism because of his support for Israel.

Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi was accused by presenter Shelagh Fogarty of having “reduced a Jewish man with concerns for antisemitism in the Labour party to the word ‘Israel’," after she interrupted the broadcaster as she recounted those fears.

Before her phone interview with Ms Wimborne-Idrissi last Thursday, Ms Fogarty did a phone interview with barrister Jeremy Brier, who, she told Ms Wimborne-Idrissi, “believes there is a deep-seated and dangerous problem in the Labour Party.”

But Ms Wimborne-Idrissi responded by interrupting to say: “Because he’s an Israel supporter. He told me so.”

Ms Fogarty repeatedly asked Ms Wimborne-Idrissi if she was aware of "how that sounded" and each time Ms Wimborne-Idrissi responded: “Antisemitism is a really serious threat…”

Ms Fogarty then cut off Ms Wimborne-Idrissi completely, adding: “It sounds antisemitic, so I’m not going to take the risk of continuing the conversation with you because I think you’re, I think you’ve just done exactly the thing that people like Jeremy are concerned about.

“And I was giving you an opportunity to explain your position, I gave you plenty of opportunity to explain your position and very early on in our conversation you reduced a Jewish man with concerns about the Labour party’s leadership on this issue to the nation of Israel.”

Ms Wimborne-Idrissi had previously suggested that Luciana Berger – who left Labour earlier this year because of its “institutional” antisemitism – had raised the issue of Jew-hate in the party “at the apposite moment to suit her anti-Corbyn agenda”.
