A Christian teacher who sued his former school claiming he was forced out of his job for complaining that Muslim pupils were making antisemitic and anti-Christian remarks has lost his employment tribunal.
Nicholas Kafouris, 52, claimed that pupils had said in lessons that they “hated Jews and Christians”, had praised the 9/11 bombers as heroes and said they wanted to be suicide bombers when they grew up.
Mr Kafouris claimed that Bigland Green Primary School in Tower Hamlets had ignored his repeated complaints and that they had been brushed aside by the head, Jill Hankey, and the assistant head Margaret Coleman, both of whom have now retired. Mr Kafouris had worked at the school for 12 years and claimed that its failure to act led to his developing depression and the loss of his job.
The tribunal took place in February and a decision was expected within four weeks but the three members have announced their decision only now.
Mr Kafouris’ twin brother Andrew said: “We were very disappointed at the decision and we will con si der whether or not we will appeal.
The school brought no witnesses other than the head and her assistant, while we had a number of people who spoke up for Nicholas. We will look very closely at their rea s ons and then decide about an appeal.”
