India’s Bnei Menashe community, in the northeastern state of Manipur, numbers more than 7,000. This year, along with Jews around the world they will be marking Succot, helped by donations from philanthropic organisation Shavei Israel.
If their prayers are answered and Israel offers them the chance to make aliyah, this could be the community’s last Succot in India.
Shavei Israel chairman, Michael Freund, said: “We hope the New Year will bring good news and that the dream of the Bnei Menashe to come to Israel will soon become a reality”.
