A miniature train ride overturned leaving children 'trapped' under a railway carriage in a park in Watford.

According to the BBC News website the crash happened at Cassiobury Park on Tuesday afternoon after a miniature train ride derailed, according to eyewitnesses.

Among the passengers were strictly Orthodox families enjoying a Pesach outing.

Daniel Reichmann, 26, from Edgware, was on the train with his family. He said there was "a bang and a crash and a jolt" five minutes into the ride.

Mr Reichmann, a member of the Reichmann family who built Canary Wharf in London, used his training as a paramedic to help the children trapped under one of the carriages.

He said: "We managed to lift the carriage off. There was a lot of screaming, but I assessed the children and there were no broken bones or serious injuries.

"The driver was clearly shocked and immediately offered to refund the ride."

Watford Borough Council which owns the park but leases the railway to Jeff Price said no-one was seriously hurt, but the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.

Mr Price told reporters one woman was taken to hospital for a cut on the head and there were a number of "grazed knees".

He said: "Nobody was seriously injured and the ambulance service was not called to the area.

Mr Price said he thought the train derailed because of a faulty spring on one of the carriages, which has now been removed.
