Stanley Cundle lands an award for his charity work in Leeds

Veteran volunteer Stanley Cundle has been awarded the first ever Leeds Award for his services to the city.

The award was established by Leeds Council last year to honour those who do charity or volunteer work, or give up time in their communities. Mr Cundle, 69, is the chair of the Makor charitable trust and Leeds Jewish International Performing Arts Festival. He is also vice chair of the Zone youth club and former head of the Leeds Community Security Trust, where he was involved for 25 years. "Receiving the honour came as a big surprise to me," Mr Cundle tells People. "It's kind of the equivalent of Freeman of the City. It's a great honour for me and the Jewish community." Also awarded was former radio and TV presenter Sir Jimmy Savile for his services to charity.
