The chairman of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has pledged to support the local community in rebuilding the area following Saturday's mass rioting.

Daniel Levy expressed sadness and concern about the "disruption to local people's lives and the effect on the community as a whole".

"This is the second time this has happened in our area in recent times," said the Essex-born Jewish businessman, referring to the Broadwater farm riot of 1985.

Shops and buildings were smashed up and burn to the ground as protesters took to the streets of Tottenham and blamed police for the death of a resident.
