But Mr Wineman’s successor Jonathan Arkush opted not to stand for the position – although Mr Arkush automatically has a seat on the JLC’s trustee board.
When the JLC was formed in 2003, it was led by the then president of the Board of Deputies Henry Grunwald, who was its founding chairman.
The JLC is also reviewing the composition of its advisory body of vice-presidents after the expiry of their three-year term.
Its 10 VPs include Lord Janner, who was charged last month with historical child abuse, although his picture does not appear on the JLC’s website.
The JLC is writing to them to ask if they wish to be considered for a further term of office.
One of the vice-presidents is Board of Deputies chief executive Gillian Merron, although a Board spokesman said that no decision had been taken about whether she would seek to remain on the JLC.
