Scarlett Johansson organises all-star performance of Our Town to benefit Puerto Rico disaster victims

The Avengers star brought along her Marvel comics team-mates for a special one-off performance

Scarlett Johansson used her real superpower – an all-star contact book – to assemble an incredible cast for a performance of Thornton Wilder’s classic play Our Town at Atlanta's Fox Theatre.

She was joined by Avengers workmates Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo for a rehearsed reading of the 1938 play. All proceeds from the performance went to The Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund.

The stellar cast are usually only seen together in the multi-million-dollar Marvel superhero franchise. Without their costumes and CGI add-ons they put on a relaxed show, with Ruffalo and Renner in particular eliciting chuckles from the crowd with their shameless ad-libbing.

Johansson spoke to the audience before the performance, saying: “Our Town is almost this kind of warrior cry to remind us of the fragility of life. It reminds us to be present and to live moment to moment with one another and to look at each other, to really see one another. It’s about community, helping other people, being compassionate, reaching across lines to lift somebody out of a tragic situation. It’s all about human connectivity, and theatre is all about human connectivity.”
