Jews from all walks of life have been named in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The highest honour goes to the chair of Random House publishers, Gail Rebuck, who is appointed Dame.

Vidal Sassoon has received a CBE for his services to hairdressing. The 81-year-old stylist made his name in 1960s when his ‘bob cut’ became the look that defined an era.

But the Jewish community will know him for his opposition to Mosley's blackshirts and the fact that he volunteered to fight in Israel's war of independence in 1948.
