Bubble blower Sam Heath holds the Guinness World Record for putting 50 people inside a bubble. He can also make square bubbles, fire bubbles and has blown what is believed to be the world’s largest bubble. He has even supplied bubbles to Ringo Starr, Peter Gabriel and David Cameron.
Last month, he was showing off his tricks at the Jewish Community Centre’s (JCC) Barmitzvah Disco. He assures me no one got wet.
Mr Heath, aka Samsam Bubbleman, 38, tells People: “It’s quite a rare passion. It started as a hobby in 1989 when I saw a bubble float across a field and I remember thinking how beautiful it was — a ball of colour and light.”
He now runs his own company Bubble Inc, which comprises a team of “bubbleologists” who perform at various events across the world. He recently did a gig for Sony. “I never get bored of bubbles,” he says. “There is so much you can learn from them. The world could actually be powered by bubbles — when the tiny air bubbles in the water burst they create temperatures hotter than those found on the surface of the sun. There is a lot more to bubbles than meet the eye. They are an undisclosed art form.”
Mr Heath, who has performed on BBC’s Blue Peter, ITV’s This Morning, Channel 4 and Sky, creates his own bubble solutions. He is waiting for official confirmation as to whether he has broken the record for the world’s largest bubble. The current record stands at 105.4 cubic ft; his attempt has been estimated at 393 cubic ft.
