A Romanian builder who butchered an Israeli woman with a Stanley knife was jailed for at least 25 years on Wednesday.
Nicolae Patraucean, 21, strangled 55-year-old Rivka Holden and slit her throat, before dismembering her body, the Old Bailey was told.
Ms Holden's mutilated body was found at her home in Falcon Way, Colindale, north London, on March 16.
Prosecuting barrister Timothy Cray described the attack as "sadistic" and said that large amounts of cash found in the flat showed that Patraucean was not motivated by theft.
Patraucean had been drinking heavily in the 24 hours before the killing and had also taken cannabis, cocaine and heroin.
Judge Timothy Pontius jailed Patraucean for life and ordered that he serve at least 25 years before he can be considered for parole.
Patraucean, of Chichester Court, Stanmore, north-west London, had admitted murder.
