Mr Wagman, who attends Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue, said: “I have to say I was very, very surprised. I really didn’t think we would win, so when they called out our name it was just a mixture of shock and surprise. We were thrilled.
“I’m just proud to be part of a team which has been recognised for this show. It was a great moment. You don’t do it for awards but to be recognised by your peers is great.”
Mr Wagman and his colleagues on the talent-booking team were charged with sourcing 1,500 performers, as well as signing up a host of stars, including Martin Clunes, Andrea Bocelli, James Blunt, Beverley Knight, Jess Glynne, Dame Shirley Bassey, and hosts Ant and Dec.
The former ITV talent executive, a married father-of-three, said working on the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration was like “being part of a huge orchestra, where everyone has to play their right note and the right time”.
Although the Queen was not at Sunday’s Bafta awards ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall, she and the Duke of Edinburgh did invite Mr Wagman and his colleagues to a royal reception where they were thanked for their hard work.
