Before he left for Ukraine, the TV judge paid tribute to his partner, Ukrainian dancer Oksana Platero with whom he reached the quarter-final in 2016, saying she had “gifted me so much.”
He wrote on Twitter, “Right now her grandparents are a week into their struggle to find sanctuary in a safe country. I’ll be trying to meet them on the border next week. They’re just a few of the millions who need us.”
Mr Rinder, who is currently reporting from the Ukrainian border for Talk Radio and the Sun, previously spoke out against Russia’s invasion.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain, he said of Russian President Vladimir Putin, “I don't like the word evil, it lacks nuance, but if the cap fits. It seems to be, it's time to call him out for what he is”.
