The BBC’s internal complaints unit rejected every appeal against the BBC Arabic service submitted by an independent media watchdog during the course of the Gaza war, the JC can reveal.

The revelation has prompted accusations that the corporation has a “culture of denial” in dealing with alleged bias against Israel in its coverage, and calls for a reform of the complaints system.

US-based pro-Israel media watchdog, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (Camera), has submitted more than 100 complaints about BBC Arabic’s coverage in the past two years.

While 101 of Camera’s complaints were upheld and BBC Arabic was forced to make 213 corrections to stories deemed biased, inaccurate or misleading (an average of more than two a week throughout the conflict), many others were rejected.
