Restaurant tycoon Richard Caring is Tory Party’s biggest donor

Jewish restaurant tycoon Richard Caring was the biggest donor to the Tory Party in past few months.

According to figures released by the Electoral Commission, Mr Caring – who is reported to be worth more than £800m and owns famous London restaurants including the Ivy, and Le Caprice and Annabel’s nightclub – donated £296,000 to the political party in the third quarter of 2015..

According to official donation records, the 67 year-old who lives in Hampstead, has not given the Conservatives any money for the past three years, but donated around £170,000 and £50,000 in 2010 and 2012 respectively. He also donated £2m to Labour in 2006.

All his donations have come in the form of auction prizes, including the use of his nightclub, Annabel’s for the Tories’ Black and White ball, which raises millions for the party.

Largest donations to the Tories in this year’s third quarter were:

● £296,000 Richard Caring, restaurant and nightclub tycoon.

● £260,139 David Brownlow, entrepreneur.

● £208,500 Ian TaylorCEO of oil trader Vitol.

● £170,000 Christopher Rokos, hedge fund manager.

● £117,500 Lycamobile, mobile phone operator.
