Antisemitism activist and television presenter Rachel Riley has said that she will stop supporting the club she's been a lifelong fan of if they reinstate Mason Greenwood.

Riley, who co-presents Countdown said on Twitter: "I won’t be able to support United if Greenwood remains at the club. We’ve all seen and heard enough. Pretending this is OK would be a huge part of the problem.

“It would be devastating for my club to contribute to a culture that brushes this under the carpet … I really hope they do the right thing.”

Riley also confirmed to a fan that she had got rid of a Manchester United shirt given to her by club legend Ryan Giggs during filming for an episode of Countdown in 2013.

Mason Greenwood has not played for the club in over a year after he was arrested by Greater Manchester Police in January 2022 and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

In February of this year, the Crown Prosecution Service said they were dropping all charges against 21-year-old Greenwood after they believed there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” after key witnesses declined to cooperate with the investigation.

Earlier this week, Manchester United said in a statement that they had not yet decided whether Greenwood would rejoin the team.

The club said: “Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.”
