A Labour MP has called for Britain’s armed forces to be deployed against the IDF to stop “genocide” in Gaza.

Following a “Middle East update” to MPs from Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Monday evening, Tahir Ali, who represents Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley, told MPs: “Inhumanity is a red line drawn by international law and underwritten by universal human rights. In Gaza, that red line has not just been broken; it has been ignored, betrayed and erased.”

He went on: “The foreign secretary tells us that Netanyahu is not listening – in fact, he is putting his middle finger up to the UK government. Will the foreign secretary send military personnel to protect Palestinians from the genocide being committed by the IDF?”

Lammy responded by saying that he recognised “the strength of feeling that my honourable friend conveys to the Chamber”, but emphasising that the government would be pressing for a ceasefire in Gaza as well as “an alleviation of the suffering, and, of course, to do everything we can to see the hostages returned”, rather than authorising military intervention.
