A Green Party candidate wrote a social media post referring to “Jewish cockroaches”, it has emerged.
Raja Ateeq, a candidate in Walsall, made the remark in a social media post from December 2023.
He wrote: “250k Jewish cockroaches who were relocated are refusing to go back to Gaza… 400k Jewish [sic] have flown out of Israel… couple more Islamic countries to join and in Sha Allah, Palestine will be free”.
According to a Green spokesperson, Ateeq “removed the tweet and recognises that it was wrong to have posted it”.

An investigation by The Telegraph also found multiple candidates expressing support for Palestine Action, prior to its proscription as a terrorist organisation in July 2025.
Those named include Stephanie Golder, a candidate for Tower Hamlets, who has faced charges linked to support for the group, as well as Laura-Louise Fairley and Alistair Binnie-Lubbock, both in Hackney.
Other candidates cited include Joe Belcher, who had previously been dropped as a parliamentary candidate by the party after claiming Israeli and Gazan leaders conspired over the October 7 attacks, and a London councillor who reportedly shared a post describing Zionism as “the Nazism of our time”.
Party leader Zack Polanski said he condemns antisemitism and has maintained that the cases represent a small proportion of the party’s total number of candidates.
Polanski is himself facing criticism for engaging with conspiratorial social media posts.
It was reported on Monday that he had liked several posts on Bluesky claiming that the prime minister was receiving money from “Zionist philanthropists” and questioning how much Israel was allegedly paying him.
A Green Party spokesperson said: “Zack makes no apology for highlighting the close relationship between Israel and the Labour Government, which has led to Labour and Keir Starmer arming and supporting a genocide, a bit more of an issue than liking some social media posts.”
