The prime minister has expressed his concern at the stabbing that took place in Golders Green and said there have been too many similar incidents of late.
At least two people – understood to be Jewish – were stabbed in Golders Green on Wednesday morning. Shomrim said that the suspect – since arrested – was “seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public.”
The incident was raised in the House of Commons after Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) as a point of order by Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet.
She described the stabbings as dreadful said she was “worried about this repeated violence against the Jewish community”, and wished authorities success in bringing perpetrator to justice.
The prime minister said he had learned about the attack prior to PMQs and said the attack was “deeply concerning to everyone in this house”.
He continued: “There is now a police investigation, and I think we all need to do everything we can to support that investigation and be absolutely clear in our determination to deal with any of these offenses, the like of which we have seen too much recently.”
Later, on social media, Starmer posted: “The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain. Thank you to Shomrim, Hatzola and the police for acting swiftly. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
The Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan also described the attack as “appalling” and thanked volunteers from Hatzola and Shomrim who responded to it in a post on social media.
There has been an appalling attack on two Jewish Londoners in Golders Green. The police have made an arrest and I’d like to thank all the emergency services and heroic volunteers from @Hatzola @ShomrimLondon in the area for their swift response to this horrific incident.

The mayor continued: “London’s Jewish community have been the target of a series of shocking antisemitic attacks. There must be absolutely no place for antisemitism in society. The Met have stepped up high visibility patrols in the area.”
And Health Secretary Wes Streeting wrote: “An attack on Britain’s Jewish community is an attack on us all and our way of life.
“This is happening again and again and again. I’d like to thank Hatzola, Shomrim, and the emergency services for their swift response - but we’ve got more to do as a government and as a country.”
However, the Conservative Party said that the Jewish community was being let down by an inadequate response to rising antisemitism.
