How normal is it to be constipated while pregnant? What about acid reflux? High-profile doctor Philippa Kaye answers these plus a host of all other pregnancy-related questions in her latest book, Your Pregnancy Week by Week: Practical and Reassuring Advice from Conception to Birth.
Dr Kaye, who currently works as a GP in north London, has a particular interest in women's, children's and sexual health.
She tells People: "There is a lot of terrifying information out there but pregnancy is a normal process and it shouldn't be too medicalised. Lots of symptoms are common in pregnancy such as mild stretching pain in your tummy or backache, and these are often a normal part of pregnancy. The book explains all of this. It answers all the questions you want to ask but can't, including those on exercise, diet and sex." There is also a section for expectant fathers.
The book is Dr Kaye's third solo publication. She is the author of Coping with Diabetes in Childhood and Adolescence (Sheldon Press, 2008) and The Fertility Handbook (Sheldon Press, 2007). Her next book - on child health - is due out next year. The mother of one also writes for several parenting and teenage magazines, including Sugar and Junior.
Dr Kaye, 30, believes GPs should play a key role in their patient's antenatal care. "We know the woman as a whole person. I think the best model of antenatal care is a shared one." Your Pregnancy Week by Week is published by Vermilion.
