The Oxford University Jewish Society and the Oxford University Labour Club held a joint event on Sunday evening, which was described by participants as a “great success”.
The meeting, titled “Labour, Antisemitism and the Jewish Community: Moving Forward” was addressed by Ella Rose, the former President of the Union of Jewish students and the current Director of the Jewish Labour Movement. Baroness Royall, who conducted the Labour party’s investigation into the activities of the Oxford Labour club, also addressed the gathering, reminding them that the Jewish Labour Movement “is the oldest affiliate in the Labour party”.
Following the event, a joint statement was released by the Oxford University Jsoc and Labour club, describing the event as “a great success, with both speakers covering the nature and the extent of the problem of antisemitism that has arisen within OULC and the Labour Party, and the steps we need to take in order to definitively draw a line under this issue.”
The event, the statement continued, was “recognition of the fact that we can only achieve this by working together.”
