A Jewish journalist has had her work commended by the judges of a prestigious media award.

Emma Barnett, the digital media editor of the Daily Telegraph, was named the "digital editorial individual 2011" at the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) awards ceremony in London last week.

The Manchester-born writer, who studied at Nottingham University and gained an MA at Cardiff University, was presented with the award by comedian Russell Kane.

The award came just hours after Ms Barnett, 26, was one of the first people in Britain to hold the torch for the 2012 London Olympics during a Sky news programme. She wrote on Twitter that it was "really light actually".
