Two rebbetzins gave birth to daughters on the same day in the same hospital, sparking celebrations in Liverpool’s Jewish community.
Liat Lieberman, 29, of Allerton Synagogue, gave birth in the early hours of Monday morning and a few hours later Tzivia Brown, 38, of Chabad on Campus, had her daughter at Liverpool Women’s hospital.
Rabbi Dan Lieberman said the coincidence had provided an opportunity for a double celebration on Merseyside.
“We are a small community. It is not often we have births so to have two on the same day and from rabbinic families is great for the community,” the Manchester-born rabbi said.
The Liebermans are yet to choose a name for their new arrival. The couple already have two boys, aged five and seven, and a girl, aged two.
Rabbi Shmuli Brown, who is also originally from Manchester and moved to Liverpool seven years ago, had joked with his rabbinic colleague about the possibility of their wives giving birth on the same day.
He said: “We feel overjoyed and thrilled that the community will be strengthened with growth instead of decline with the divine providence of our two babies being born on the same day.”
Rabbi Lieberman, referring to Rabbi Brown, added: “We both grew up in the same place, so we knew of each other, but he was older than me. We both work with students and Shmuli davens at Allerton Synagogue every Shabbat.”
Both mothers were at home with their new arrivals by Wednesday, and Rabbi Brown said the families were planning a celebratory kiddush together.
Rabbi Lieberman said: “I hope the girls will be great friends. This is something they will always share.”
