New entry code for Yavneh

articlemain

Yavneh College has published its revised entry rules for September 2017 after being forced to amend them by the Office of Schools Adjudicator.

If the secondary school is oversubscribed, priority will now simply go to children living nearest to the school.

It had wanted to create a catchment area for those in the WD and AL postcodes in Hertfordshire.

But the OSA ruled, after parental objections, that this would be misleading because it would lead to unrealistic explanations of a place for those living more than five kilometres from the Borehamwood-based school.

A Yavneh spokesman said the likely impact of removing the WD and AL postcodes "may be that fewer families living in Jewish communities in Hertfordshire will get a place at Yavneh College, while those living in some areas of north-west London may benefit".

It was, he said "regrettable" that families living in some parts of Hertfordshire may be in a worse position than under the school's original proposals.
