A neo-Nazi former UKIP member who possessed explosives and shared material suggesting support for a race war has been sentenced to 23 years.

Dean Morrice, 34, from Somerset, was sentenced on Monday after a two-week trial at Kingston Crown Court.

Morrice was found guilty of eight counts relating to terror offences and another two of having an explosive substance.

He has been jailed for 23 years - 18 of which will be custodial.

The defendant is reportedly a former member of UKIP and previously worked in the Army as a driver, according to multiple media reports.

He was arrested in August last year, Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) said on Monday.

Officers uncovered a 3D printer during a search of his home and other evidence suggesting he was attempting to build a weapon, CTPSE said.

The force said it found explosive substances and manuals on guerrilla warfare and weapons-making as well as extreme right-wing terrorist manifestos in his possessions.

It also found footage of a terrorist act with a superimposed clip of Morrice playing a guitar as well as memes and videos encouraging terrorism on his communication channels.

The material contained neo-Nazi propaganda and antisemitic imagery and also suggested support for a race war, police said.

Detective Chief Superintendent Kath Barnes said Morrice’s weapon was not viable but warned it could have become so had it fallen into the wrong hands “with the right capability.”

The CTPSE head also said: “The evidence in this case has shown that Morrice had a clear extreme right-wing ideology and had terrorist intentions.

“Through dedicated investigation, Morrice was stopped before he was able to carry out any physical act of terror but the evidence showed that he actively encouraged terrorism to others with his toxic ideology and had the intention and potentially the capability to commit one himself.”
