After winning a competition to create the best way to get to Mars in 80 days, 17-year-old Natasha Cowan may not be off to the red planet just yet. But she is bound for Cape Canaveral next month to visit Nasa's Kennedy Space Center.
The Haberdashers' Aske's student was in charge of structural engineering on the victorious team of 50 and went on to be one of 12 chosen to represent the UK in a further contest in Florida, where she must help design a settlement on another planet. Natasha, who wants to study engineering at university, said it was "very male-dominated - girls think it's something they wouldn't do. But you've got to get rid of the gender stereotypes. I love it more than anything else."
