Investor Len Blavatnik is the UK's wealthiest person with a fortune of over £13 billion, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
The 57-year-old, who owns Warner Music and has investments ranging from oil to publishing and digital music, tops the annual survey of the country’s 1,000 richest people, up from fourth last year.
Mr Blavatnik, whose holdings are worth £13.7bn, was born in Ukraine but left with his family in 1978 when the Soviet Union allowed Jews to emigrate. He is an American citizen, but owns a home in London.
Property developers David and Simon Reuben, who are of Iraqi descent, are fifth on the list, up from seventh place in 2014, with interests worth £9.7bn.
Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich drops one place to 10th, with £7.29bn from his Russian oil business.
Cash and carry king Nathan Kirsh(£5.06bn); foreign exchange trader and Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis (£3.25bn); shipping magnate Idan Ofer (£3.15bn) and diamond dealers Laurence and Francois Graff (£3.08bn) all figure in the top 30.
Retail tycoon Sir Philip Green’s fortune is down £380 million, due to losses at BHS, leaving him with £3.5bn. He is listed with his wife Lady Tina in 22nd place.
Ranked 35th, the Pears family boast riches of £2.8bn from their property empire. Also in property, the Orthodox Freshwater family are in 68th position, with £1.4bn to their name.
Alan Howard is the wealthiest hedge fund manager, with a £1.5bn fortune – ranking him in 59th place.
Apprentice host Lord Sugar is £140 million richer than last year thanks to his property investments. He has a fortune of £1.04bn, putting him at 101 at the list.
Pop music and TV talent show impresario Simon Cowell has lost none of his X factor, with an increase in his wealth of £25 million to £325m. Mr Cowell, whose father is Jewish and who has had a son with Jewish-American socialite Lauren Silverman, is in at 313.
Gerald Ronson is also richer than last year – the communal philanthropist and chairman of the Community Security Trust has £270m from his property holdings, a rise of £50m, lifting him to 371st place.
Mumbai-born sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor appears in 729th place with £130 million, earned not only from his artworks, but also from some shrewd property investments.
The list, now in its 18th year, shows that there are a record 117 billionaires in Britain, 13 more than 2014. The total wealth of the country’s 1,000 richest people rose by 5.4 per cent over the past 12 months, to £547.126bn.
