Monica Lewinsky is reportedly to appear on the latest series of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here!
The former White House intern, who was embroiled in the huge scandal in 1998 after it emerged that she had a sexual relationship with former President Bill Clinton, is said to be “in advanced discussions” to appear on the reality TV show in the Australian outback.
Ms Lewinsky, 45, who was born in San Francisco, California and attended the Jewish school, the Sinai Akiba Academy, is said to be considering an appearance on the programme after being offered a vast sum of money.
Ms Lewinsky is now a writer and motivational speaker. A source close to her told the Sunday Express: "Monica now has a platform on which to speak about bullying, particularly in a digital age - that's why she agreed to explore being on the show.
“Plus, of course, the money being offered is very, very attractive."
After the scandal came to light, the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Clinton and Ms Lewinsky was blamed for his fall from grace.
She has since chosen to keep a low profile, preferring to steer clear of the media.
In 2014, in an interview with Vanity Fair, she opened up about the aftermath of the affair.
She said: "Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened... [My mother] was replaying those weeks when she stayed by my bed, night after night, because I, too, was suicidal.
"The shame, the scorn, and the fear that had been thrown at her daughter left her afraid that I would take my own life – a fear that I would be humiliated to death."
Ms Lewinsky has refused many TV opportunities in the past so if she chooses to partake in I’m A Celebrity, it will be a great result for ITV.
