The Jewish Labour Movement wished Wes Streeting a speedy recovery after the Labour frontbencher announced he would be undergoing treatment for kidney cancer.
The MP for Ilford North, 38, has “long been a staunch ally” of JLM, the Labour affiliate’s national chairman Mike Katz said on Friday.
“This is shocking news. Wes has long been a staunch ally of JLM and a true friend to the Jewish community, both in his constituency and beyond. Everyone at JLM wishes him well for a speedy and full recovery,” he told the JC.
Mr Streeting said in a video statement on Twitter that his cancer diagnosis in April had come as an “enormous shock” but that he expected to make a full recovery, having caught it early.
I want to share some personal news.

From the end of next week, I’m going to be away from work for a little while as I’m about to undergo treatment for kidney cancer in the safe hands of the NHS.

He is also a parliamentary supporter of Labour Friends of Israel. The group wished him a “full and speedy recovery”.
“Wes has been a brilliant MP since he was first elected in 2015, and we look forward to his return to Parliament when he can,” LFI director Michael Rubin added in a statement on Friday.
