Despite working out of the Olympic Village for the next fortnight, doctors Roger Wolman and David Elias are hoping that they don't bump into any of the world's premier athletes.

They are part of a team of 100 medical experts based in the Polyclinic in the Olympic Village over the course of the games, ready to treat any injuries.

"The aim is that if an athlete from any country needs a medical service, within a matter of five minutes of arriving they will get sorted out," said rheumatologist Dr Wolman, a member of South Hampstead Synagogue.

He will be working alongside Dr David Elias, a consultant radiologist specialising in sports injuries. Dr Wolman's connection dates back 25 years, working at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, looking after the British taekwondo and modern pentathlon teams.

Dr Wolman said that while he would enjoy meeting Usain Bolt, he hoped he would not have reason to encounter any of the athletes.

Dr Elias agreed. "Well, especially not the British ones," he said. "It's going to be quite an exciting few weeks."
