A community mohel and father-of-four has been tragically killed after being hit by a car just a few months after moving to Australia with his family.

Dr Henri Sueke from Manchester was run over and killed while he was on his way to work. He was 36.

His wife Danni and four children are now on their way to Israel where the funeral will take place.

The family were formerly members of Manchester Sephardi synagogue Shaare Hayim . The shul’s rabbi Rabbi Amir Ellituv said: “He was very loved by everyone. He was full of life.

“We grew up together. We lived our lives together. We are all shocked beyond words.”

Dr Sueke’s wife is from Australia and the family moved there just before Passover this year.

Rabbi Ellituv described Dr Sueke as someone who was deeply involved in the community. He was a mohel, gave shiurim and ran shul services for children. He was also involved with Jewish charity work.

“We were all really upset when he went to Australia, but obviously that is nothing compared to this sad loss and knowing we will never see him again,” the rabbi said.

“He was someone who loved life so much. His family meant everything to him. No-one had a bad word to say about him and he could always laugh. He was full of laughter.”

Rabbi Ellituv is travelling to Israel to help with burial arrangements.
