Jeremy Newmark, the Labour candidate for Finchley and Golders Green, has claimed government cuts to education funding threaten 12 teaching posts at Jewish secondary school JCoSS.

Launching his election campaign on Monday night, Mr Newmark promised to make education a "priority" and emphasised his commitment to improving schools by quoting former Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks, for whom he once worked.

The Jewish Labour Movement chair also pledged to call for a "confirmation referendum" on the terms of Britain's Brexit deal if elected as MP next month.

Speaking to a packed audience at a venue in Finchley, Mr Newmark said:" I will campaign tirelessly to make education funding a real priority.
