A Jewish student has been reunited with his lost kippah thanks to an online video posted by a blogger.
Fifteen-year-old Elliot Assor from Belsize Park, north London, lost the kippah on his way to synagogue last month.
It was found by Muhammed Abdullah, 32, who was out jogging in the area.
Mr Abdullah noticed Elliot's name printed inside alongside the date of his barmitzvah ceremony and initials, and used his YouTube channel to make a video in order to contact him.
He said: ““I ran passed what appeared to look like a prayer hat,something that I would normally like to wear when I pray as a Muslim.
“But on closer inspection it turned out to be a kippah. I knew that it had some sentimental value as it had the barmitzvah date printed inside and his initials sewn in as well.
“I wanted to test the power of social media in order to return it back to Elliot.
“I decided that if I make a short snappy video then hopefully I can reunite him with it.
“I found Elliot on Facebook and Twitter and I made a video to try and tell him to get in touch.”
After a few weeks Mr Abdullah received a call from the boy’s mother, Frederique Assor, and was able to return the kippah to the family.
Elliot’s mother said: “It was so sweet.
“Normally I would never call a stranger but the video was lovely because of the way he presented it. It also has some religious value for this day and age.
“We are Jewish, he is Muslim and he recognised the religious importance of the kippah. It was amazing.”
Mr Abdullah said:It was nothing for me but I knew it meant something for her. I did so in order to promote more Muslim and Jewish harmony.”
