Jewish Chronicle journalist Sandy Rashty has been named Young Journalist of the Year.
Ms Rashty 26, received the Young Journalist of the Year prize in the annual GG2 Leadership Awards, sponsored by the Daily Mail.
Judges at a gala dinner in London last night said she had ascended the ranks of the “respected Jewish Chronicle to work on the business section within six months.”
Presenting her with her award, Tory MP Shailesh Vara said: “Our winner wasn’t even thinking about a career in journalism until she penned a piece about her slightly unusual ethnic and religious background for the newspaper that now employs her.
“Within six months, she worked in the business area and has progressed to looking after a new section where she reports on the movers and shakers of her community.
“She has broken down barriers in her work and helped readers understand the position of traditionally hostile elements and used language skills to great effect.”
The judges referred specifically to Ms Rashty's JC interviews with Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson when presenting the award.
Business Secretary Sajid Javid was named the most influential Asian, and was one of 11 presented with GG2 Leadership Awards celebrating the best of ethnic Britain.
